The 1½" Bench Chisel is the versatile workhorse of the bench chisel line — wide enough for mortises and tenons, nimble enough for fine trimming and paring. Hand forged from high-carbon steel using traditional hammer techniques that compress the grain for an edge that outlasts machine-made alternatives. Socket-mounted hardwood handle seats firmly and resists splitting under mallet use. Ships shaving sharp.

These bench chisels are the perfect tools for chopping out a large mortice for timber framing. While Barr makes great timber framing chisels, these shorter versions are a bit more nimble and easier to use for mortice work. Same Barr quality and ergonomics as their big brothers.
