The 1½" Framing Chisel is the most widely used size in timber framing — wide enough for large mortises, precise enough for joinery work. Hand forged from high-carbon steel and fitted with a hardwood handle and shock ring. The blade is ground, hardened, and tempered to the proper hardness for timber work before shipping shaving sharp.

As everyone else has said, these things are the best. The only thing that I wish Is that they were more accurately ground and lapped. But after a bit of elbow grease, these things are the Ferrari/ Toyota Land Cruiser of the big chisel world. Been using them hard for years, never had another issue.

Framing chisel was packaged well and the tool looks beautiful. I cant wait to prep the handle, hone the edge, and put it to work!

I've been timber framing for 20 years. These are the best chisels I've found to date. I have 12 of them. If you're looking for framing chisels, these are the best option.

The quality is high as expected. My only improvement was that I moved the hoop up closer toward the end of the handle. It was so close when it arrived, that there literally wasn't enough room for my hand between the top of the chisel and the hoop to grasp the wood of the handle.
